speak up...

have you seasoned citizens noticed how people speak louder when they are talking to you? I've had to say a couple of times, hey, I'm not deaf just because I'm 66. I don't remember doing that to older folks when I was young. Course my grandfather, Pop, was like one of my best friends so I wouldn't talk that way to him. I guess these young people mean well, but it is irritating at times.

I posted some comments on YouTube that a young guy didn't appreciate and he said all kinds of nasty things. Like that bothered me. I was right. Shortly after that I got an email from him apologizing all over the place. Why? He had since seen my profile and knew I was a grandmother. I told him that didn't matter; he was stating his opinion. Course I told him he should clean up his language anyhow. :)

I am still surprised at times when I see myself in a mirror. Is that elderly person really me? I don't feel that old. Well, except when I have climb stairs.

Quotes

I like and collect quotes. My oldest one is, 'Due to lack of interest, tomorrow will be cancelled'. (from Reader's Digest)

I found a new one recently. 'Fill each day with acts of grace, but keep a rock handy, just in case.' (Nancy Atherton in 'Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea') Love that one.

Two quotes that can help you during a crisis are found in the Bible. 'This too shall pass' and 'God will never give you more than you can bear'.

I've questioned that last one a couple of times. :) My grandfather quoted the first one on many an occassion.

life is messy..

When a person says they are a Christian, shouldn't they act according to the Bible? I think so, altho I fail to do so during the course of the day. A neighbor is trying to get a septic waste-spraying system (for human waste he picks up everywhere) installed as a business on his 25 acres of land.

He applied in secret and the county didn't know about it until a year after the deed was done. Over 300 people have complained and written letters. The EPD, which is a misnomer, by the way, has now given him the permit. He can't do anything about it until the county signs off on it. Apparently it is all legal.

Many people have talked to him, including me, trying to make him see how his idea is giong to ruin our property values, an even more than that, his business will adversly affect the health of many of his neighbors, including my husband. He doesn't care, he's going to do it anyway.

Why are we so upset? He lives on a mountain ! And his home is located on 25 acres, with natural springs that trickle down stream into a beautiful creek that is stocked and used often. The creek will be ruined. And I believe animals will die as probably hundreds get their water from this creek. I told him that even if I was ruining just one persons' property values I would NOT put the business in. To me, that is a Christian value put into action. Not to him. He says he is a Christian and that all who object are just ignorant.

I live next door to him and I know our air quality will be affected. No more clean, crisp mountain air. Bugs, flies, rats and other creatures will love it.

I have tried to enlist help from congressmen, senators, the governor, and even PETA. Not one word of help. Oh, wait, they did give me some advice; they all said, except PETA, that they would forward my letters to the EPD. Helloooo, they are the problem!

census....

I received a postcard from the government telling me I was going to receive a census form. The following week I did indeed get the census. I filled out our names and how many lived in my home and mailed it back. Two weeks later I receive yet another census!

I wrote back thanking for being good stewards of our tax monies!

Can you imagine how much money they have spent on this so far? I don't even want to guess. Yet we are asked to do piddly things to conserve our money. Got a news flash for you Uncle Sam; it is not YOUR money! It's ours!

Hank Johnson, US Congressman

Hank Johnson believes Guam will tip over if more people and/or troops land there. His peeps are saying he was making a joke to make his point. In looking at the video, you know it wasn't an April Fool's day joke. He really meant it and his concern for Guam was evident. He was almost going to sleep as he rambled on. Nice way to represent GA, Hank! The Admiral could barely supress a grin. I'd have laughed out loud. But then Obama thinks we have 57 states so how can we expect any better?

Mickey

Ahhhhh...my first blog! Hummm... Should be very important. So, it will be about my dog, Mickey. She is one year old. We thought she was going to be a little bit bigger than a cocker. And for anyone who has ever heard the 'look at a pups paws and you can tell how big they will grow'? Not true. Mickey is now the size of a German Shepherd! She is part GS but we thought she would be smaller. Love her to death! You get so attached, so quickly. She's very smart; only have to teach her something a few times and she gets it.

Except for her jumping on people when she gets excited, she is a sweetie. I am watching 'It's Me or the Dog' on Animal planet all the time so eventually we will get her trained.

Here it is over two years later. Mickey is now full grown and spayed and big and funny and well, she is just great.
